I absolutely love to make my own soaps both for my own bathrooms and to give as gifts. Little herbal hand soaps are great to have on hand when guests come over, and I particularly love the relaxing scent of lavender.
I would like to share a very easy DIY project with you for simple DIY lavender hand soaps made using dried lavender. If you’ve never made your own soap before, it’s very easy so I encourage you to give it a try.
I grow a lot of lavender and always have dried lavender on hand for projects like these, but if you don’t have any lavender from your own garden handy you can always order some online. Alternatively, you could substitute some lavender essential oil for the dried lavender.
Simple DIY Lavender Hand Soaps
Here is what you will need:
- 8-10 oz. of white melt and pour soap base (a Shea butter base mixes very well with lavender)
- 1 pinch of pink or purple mineral oxide pigment
- 3 Tbsp dried lavender
- Soap trays or molds
- Microwave safe mixing bowl
- Mixing spoon
- Hand chopper or very sharp knife
- Microwave
- Clean and sanitized work surface
Instructions:
1. Chop the soap base into small square pieces.
2. Place the soap pieces in the microwave safe mixing bowl.
3. Heat the soap base up in short bursts in the microwave, stirring gently between bursts. Heat for 30 seconds during the first burst and 10 second intervals after that, until all the base is melted. – Be careful not to overheat or burn the base.
4. When melted, remove from microwave and stir in a pinch of pigment until a smooth colour consistency is achieved. – if the soap hardens place it back in the microwave for a couple more 10 second intervals.
5. Stir in the dried lavender.
6. When finished mixing in the lavender, pour into soap molds.
7. Let harden for about 20 minutes.
8. Gently remove soaps from molds and enjoy.
These simple DIY lavender hand soaps make lovely little gifts on their own or add them to a gift basket for almost any occasion.
